What Day Is It?

There isn't much to report, but I wanted to let everyone know that progress is still under way. I recently had a regular eye check up and the good news is that I still retain some peripheral vision and my pupil still responds to light.

I also have an appointment with my GP on Monday to try to get the referral to Boston Children's Hospital. This, and the fight to get insurance to pay, will be the two biggest obstacles so squeeze your eyes shut and think really good thoughts!

I'll post an update after my appointment on Monday!

I do hope the insurance pays for you.

Insurance doesn't pay for refractive surgery, though all the eye drops I've had to take are covered. We had planned this for a while, but had a financial setback. It turns out there is healthcare financing out there that doesn't require collateral.

Hi Ami -

I'm going to do whatever I can to get insurance to pay for it, but I'm also going into it knowing that I may very well have to foot the bill.

Glad to read things seem to be going pretty well.

I can't offer anything too helpful - except to say that I was born with strabismus too. I had two surgeries to correct when I was 4 and 8. I still have sight in both eyes, however, I see double a lot and get a lot of eye pain. There is only a 30-50% chance of improvement if I get eye therapy for $30/week for at least 3 years. I am debating that. Hang in there - I am glad to see that you are exploring all your options. And don't be afraid to appeal insurance claims and get help from outside sources.
